Where Ohio State Ranks in the Coaches' and AP Polls: A Conference Championship Preview
The Buckeyes are on a roll! After a dominant performance against Michigan, Ohio State is looking to secure its position at the top of the rankings.
The Big Win Against Michigan
On a chilly Saturday afternoon, Ohio State's football team showcased their prowess, defeating their arch-rivals, the Wolverines, 27-9. This victory not only snapped Michigan's winning streak but also brought a sigh of relief to head coach Ryan Day, who guided the team to a national championship last season.
Conference Championship and Beyond
With the win, Ohio State's sights are now set on the Big Ten championship in Indianapolis, scheduled for next weekend. But the ultimate goal lies ahead: the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes are aiming to become the first team in program history to win a second consecutive national title.
Dominance on Display
Despite some initial struggles, the Buckeye offense found its rhythm, and the defense held strong. Julian Sayin's performance was a highlight, but it was the collective effort that truly impressed. The wide receivers, Carnell Tate and Jeremiah Smith, were on fire, combining for 12 catches and over 120 yards.
The Coaches' and AP Polls
On Sunday, the final regular-season rankings were unveiled. Ohio State maintained its No. 1 ranking in both the Coaches' Poll and the AP Poll, solidifying its position as the top-ranked team in college football.
The Top Five
The Coaches' Poll saw some changes after the rivalry weekend. Indiana, Georgia, Oregon, and Ole Miss occupy the top four spots, respectively. In the AP Poll, Oregon and Georgia take the top two positions, with Texas A&M in fifth place.
Big Ten's Ranked Teams
Beyond Ohio State, the Big Ten boasts two more ranked teams in the Coaches' Poll: USC and Michigan, ranked 17th and 18th, respectively. The Hoosiers and the Ducks also make their presence known in the rankings.
Conference Championship Game
The Buckeyes' next challenge awaits in the Big Ten Championship Game, returning to the scene for the first time since 2020. They will face Indiana, the top-ranked team in the conference, in a highly anticipated showdown. The game is set to kick off at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
